Hazardous Materials Surveys
As part of construction and demolition projects, the use of hazardous substances within building materials and products can be overlooked as part of the overarching risk management process. The hazard presented by asbestos is more widely known but the use, as an example, of lead in paint may not be recognised as a potential hazard and subsequently not considered as part of a contractor’s risk assessment.
Safe working practice, site specific plans of work and operative PPE may, therefore, not suitably assess all potential risks during construction or demolition phases, resulting in non-compliance with health and safety legislation, regulation and guidance.
Derisk offer surveying services to clients at pre-construction phase to assess the use of hazardous materials on site, utilising specialist laboratories for analysis of materials and products for, but not limited to, the following:
- Lead in paint
- Heavy metals
- PCB’s Concrete composition and mechanical properties
Derisk can carry out standalone hazard material surveys or incorporate with their asbestos survey activities to provide consolidated reports incorporating comprehensive analysis, recommendation and guidance for safe working procedures on construction sites.
